It’s been a week since I brought home the mealworms and morio worms. They’ve been wallowing in tubs of corn meal and quick oats, eating bits of bananas, squash, and egg shell. Today, I noticed my first mealworm pupa, and after a little digging around I uncovered three more. This prompted me to go ahead and isolate a bunch of morio worms so they will start their journey to beetlehood. I have a bunch of small parts containers, so I drilled a small hole in the cover over each compartment to allow for air exchange (they probably weren’t airtight in the first place) of two of these cases, providing 48 separate containers that is more than enough room for a morio worm. A few minutes with some chopsticks was all it took to fill these pods, and then the cases went into the dubia roach heating box, where it is dark and warm.
